I’m back!!! Had to go take care of some business in the old country. For details on that be sure and check my personal blog @ myspace.com/joaobass. I should finally get around to posting it sometime this week. The bad part is that I have been back in the country for about two weeks now and I still haven’t blogged anything here. So with this blog I am gonna briefly touch on the last two gigs. I may even mention the gig that I missed too.
April 21st Marietta, GA (Wild Wing Cafe) & April 22nd Dacula, GA (The Fieldhouse)
Ok, I was gone during this one. Special thanks once again to Matt Jones for donning the Freddie Boom Boom suit and covering those gigs for me.
Don’t really know much about the Marietta gig, but I Heard that the Fieldhouse packed and off the hook. Rolo said the turnout was great and the folks was having the time of their lives. Some of them even came to see us this past weekend in Suwanee.
April 28th Alpharetta, GA (Wild Wing Cafe) & April 29th Suwanee, GA (Wild Wing Cafe)
My first gig back was the day after I got back to Atlanta. Lucy enough for me it was in Alpharetta. We did the 90’s Dock Martins show that night. To add to my lack of sleep, we decided to add two new songs. Longview by Greenday and No Excuses by Alice In Chains.
No Excuses was no problem, but Longview has a fairly difficult bass part that is normally played with a pick. As soon as I got to my house on Thursday night I set up my little amp, headphones and iPod and started learning it. I got it within about an hour and a half or so, but with my fingers. Once I get used to it and no longer need the cheat sheet I will start playing it with a pick.
So the gig went well. The crowd was into it and the new songs went over great.
Saturday found us as Electric Boogaloo at The Wing in Suwanee. As usual, another big Saturday night. Simon was on his game, and the boys were jammin’. Our good friend Luna sat in on a song or two… a goodnight.
May 5th & 6th Suwanee, GA (Wild Wing Cafe)
This weekend started with a hunt for a drummer. Chad had plans, and Rodney had to back out of the gigs for that weekend. (Congrats to Rodney for getting the Stuck Mojo gig.) After several phone calls to find one drummer for both nights we finally decided to get a different drummer for each night. Our old friend Ganesh, from metalsome Inc., signed on for the Dock Martins on Friday night. And Soumen of the Lixx Band was on the slate for Saturday night with Stone Cold Fox.
Cinco de Mayo found el Dock Martinos back at the Suwanee wing. It was our first time doing the 90’s show there.
I wasn’t too sure how Suwanee would take this show. I was pleasantly surprised. The first couple of songs had a few people on the dance floor singing along, by the time we played Hey Jealousy the dance floor was packed. The crowd was totally into the new show.
Saturday night seemed to be a little slower when we got there. Cinco de Mayo seemed to have worn everybody out. Not a chance. Another packed dance floor for the 70’s disco show. Rolo was in rare form. Soumen did a great job.
Special thanks to Skip for sending some pictures from the weekend.
This weekend finds us in Columbia, SC and Augusta, GA…………..
Til next time,
john
