ISLAND TIME

This weekend we headed to the coast. Friday night Bluffton, SC as Stone Cold Fox and Saturday night in Savannah as The Dock Martins.

Talk about a laid back weekend. When we got to Bluffton, they told us not to start before 10:30. Most of the Wings want you to start no later than 10:15. The soundman there was a Scotsman named Ian that I had worked with before at the Hilton Head Wing. Really nice guy and a really good soundman. Very easy to work with. The crowd wasn't huge Friday night, but they seemed into it and there were people dancin' all night.

On the way Friday, I met up on the road with my Brother, Mom and Dad. It was cool, they finally got to see Stone Cold Fox. They hadn't seen me play in at least 6 or more years, back when I was in the wedding band. They not only loved the food at the wings, but they loved the show. My dad thought Sean was one of the best front men he had ever seen. I even think he wished he was still the dancin machine. hahha.

After the show, Scott and I headed down South to my parents house to hang out there. It was about a hour and a half drive.

After sleeping in on Saturday, followed by mom's cooking of some shrimp, we eventually headed back up to Savannah. We got there early enough that Scott and I could take our time setting up. Sean and Rich had already brought in their stuff earlier that day.

Once the soundman got there he said that they wanted us to start at 11. yep, 11. Hahaha. You gotta love Island Time. The crowd there was nuts. And they loved the docs. We played til nearly 3. I wouldn't mind playing in SAV once a month.

Gotta love Island Time.

The Water In Suwanee

We played in Suwanee this weekend for the 2nd week in a row. Once again the crowds were great. Friday night was packed for Stone Cold Fox from beginning to end.  Most of our Suwanee friends were in the house....Tim (a.k.a. Jimmy Walker), Skip, Britt, Luna Ashlee. Also it was good to see the return of Erica to the bartending staff.

Saturday night, however, was a bit nutty. The crowd was great, but during the 2nd set it was like someone turned it all up about 4 notches. It had to be the rowdiest crowd I have seen there ina long while.

Unfortunately some girl who thought that her birthday gave her the right to push everyone out of her way to get up front, caused a fight. But once, Chewie and the gang got it sorted out, the show continued. Still a rowdy crowd though. It was like someone spiked the punch in Suwanee last night. hahahaha.

Casino Royale

As stated in an earlier blog, OJJ and some Family members went and checked the Bond on Turkey Day. Many of you don't know this, but OJJ was and is somewhat of a 007 fanatic. I even have al the Ian Flemming and John Gardener books. I think my edition of Dr. No and Casino Royale are both 2nd editions. Unfortunately no first editions. To hard to find.

The new movie........not bad. I thought it was a decent adaptation of the 1st James Bond novel. Daniel Craig did a great job as 007. I wouldn't go so far to call him the best. He was gritty, but so was Sean Connery. He was a bad ass when fighting, but so was George Lazenby in his one outing as 007. I wouldn't say he was debonair like Roger Moore. Maybe a little dark like Timothy Dalton. In my opinion, a much better Bond than Remington Steele.

The story, as in the book, is an introduction to Bond. He has just been given "double 0" status. It also shows how Bond becomes cold as ice.

My biggest problem is that they keep advertising as the movie were Bond finds the one love of his life. uh, Hello! Her Majesty's Secret Serve, Bond (George Lazenby) meets Teresa, whom he later marries. She is then killed by Blowfelds henchmen at the end. Later in For Your Eyes Only, the beginning starts with Bond (Roger Moore) visiting Teresa Bond's grave and placing flowers there before getting his chopper hijacked by Blofeld (in full Doctor Evil mode) which he re-hijacks and then drops Blofeld in a smokestack. Did they forget all of that. At least the marriage parts are in the book, so they can't discount that!

I am glad, however, that they finally made Casino Royale in to a real Bond movie. All we had before was the camp with David Niven, Peter Sellers, and Woody Allen, and of course the very first Bond that was live on American TV with Bond played by American, Barry Allen.

Overall, I liked it and would put this movie in the top 10 Bond movies. Hey maybe next TBS or Spike does Bond week, I'll Rank the movies.

In the meantime go see Casino Royale.

Turkey Ponderings.

As most of you know, I have a weekday job. At that job last Tuesday, we had our annual "Thanksgiving Lunch". The usual fair: Turkey, Ham, Stuffing, Sweet Tator Sooflay Souffle, etc etc. Then on Thursday I was at my parent's house in Brunswick, GA. Again, Turkey, Ham, sweet tators, etc. Later that night, after viewing Casino Royale (Another blog reviewing it,  coming soon), I headed over to my God-mother's mother's house (BoBo as she is referred to by all her grand children, god children, etc). Guess what we had for dinner at Bobo's? haha, you guessed it, Turkey, Ham, etc, etc............

My mom always wonders why I don't ever take home leftover turkey and ham when she offers to put some in my cooler.

Why the Turkey? Why the ham? Surely when the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, there were cows roaming around. I' m sure the Natives had been feeding some of those cows corn and such to make them yummy. And I damn sure know they all knew how to build a fire and make a make-shift grill! Why couldn't Turkey day be known as Steak Day!?!?! Hell, they were near the water, they could have had Sushi! But No! Had to be a bird loaded with shit that makes you sleepy and causes Gout.

The cool thing is that at work, our CFO and I thought that next year we would propose replacing the "Thanksgiving Lunch" with the "UGA vs GA Tech Steak Out". Yep get everyone to put in about 7 bucks, go and get some nice cuts of beef, preferably Filets, but Strips will do nicely, thank you. And grill them in the back parking lot, like we do during baseball season. For those that don't want a steak, we offer Bubba Burgers and Nathan's hotdogs. I think it will be a hit

Borat

OK, Finally I saw it. I met up with the Right Reverend Rolo P. Coltrane and saw Borat. Possibly one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

Warning to the ladies. A lot of toilet humor. You might not like it or get it.

Warning to the fellas. No warning. Go see this movie! You will laugh your ass off all the way through to the end.

If you have seen Borat on Da Ali G show, it a lot like that. Borat interacting with real people. There is some scripted stuff and that part is just as funny.

A Dear, Does She Have Doe? Yeah, Two Bucks!

I don't know what what was going on last night, but as I drove from Augusta back home to Atlanta after the gig, there were dear everywhere on the side of the interstate. Usually there are a few, but it seemed last night that they were every half mile or so. What was going on in Dear Land? I wonder if the had their own sort of Wingstock? I mean to dear get together at the side of the road for parties and such.

OH well, at least I made it home without hitting one.

Last nights gig went well. It was Augusta's Wingstock so the place was packed. They dug the Fox. And the Fox was diggin' them back.

Still haven't had a chance to see Borat yet, but I may go see it today. I'm trying to get Rolo to go see it with me.

later,

Columbia & Moons Over MyHammy

Nice crowd last night in Columbia. Not much for dancing there, but they were really into the Dock Martin's show. More of a stay in their seats, concert mode show, but they were loud and responded to every song in a positive manner. We even gave them a handful of 80's songs even though they were quite happy with the 90's.

Afterwards Skelly , Lindsey and I went to Denny's. MMMMMMM MMMMMMMM MMMMMM, Moons over MyHammy, that's good stuff.

Today it's off to Augusta, for the Wingstock tonight. If you are at home doing nothing, and if we happen to be playing inside (not sure yet since it is Wingstock) you can peep at us through the Augusta Wing's streaming video cam. here is the address.... http://24.236.106.48:5001/ ....... Check it out.(Be careful sometimes it just doesn't work) Also gonna try and catch the matinee of Borat. I will post a review afterwards if I can.

Peace, Love & Soul,

CMAs & Mohawks

A little known fact about OJJ.....even though I like to bring the Funk to the party, I am a bit of a country fan.

with that being said..............

As I'm watching the CMAs tonight, I noticed that both Miranda Lambert and Faith Hill's bass players are sporting mohawks. Is tonight country mohawk night? What gives? So if I ever decide to pick up sticks and hit the Nashville scene, do I have to sport a mohawk?

And another thing, I always thought Carrie Underwood was hot, but damn she is "Smokin' Hot" tonight!

Holy crap! Carrie just won female vocalist of the year! She just beat out Martina and Gretchen! Good for her.

And one last note, they are now showing footage of The Hag from 1973, talk about smooth! Many don't know it, but the inspiration for OJJ is 45% Rick James, 45% Pimp, 5% Elvis, and 5% Merle.

Somebody hand me my pimp cane!

ojj

Halloween and then some..........

OK. I know. There have been a lot of gigs since my last post and Halloween. My apologies to you all. Things at my day gig have been a bit hectic and I haven't had much time to get to the blog, nor the scf website. (The website, that's a whole other story. I promise that I will get something a little more interactive up shortly after the Xmas holidays. Possibly a message board of some sort.) I have however been keeping the dates up on our myspace pages, so be sure and check those out. I will list all of them at the end of this post.

ok, let's see how I can recap the gigs since August and Halloween, in just a few sentences.

September came, we played our normal gigs in Alpharetta and Suwanee, great crowds as usual. We played one last time in G'Vegas one last time until New Years eve. Unfortunately, we won't be back there until December 31st. October came and we played in alpy and suwanee to the wonderful crowd we have grown to love. We also debuted Electric Boogaloo at The Fieldhouse. Competing with Eric Clapton down the street at the Civic Center, I'd say we did pretty well. Big ending, although a lot of the Stone Cold Fox regulars were wondering where the medley was at the end of the night. (hahaha. One of these days we should put together an 80's version of the medley.) Also, in October we had a week where Sean lost his voice for a a few days. We ended up doing two nights with a guest singer. Luna Ashlee, formerly of Lixx, filled in for Sean and did a great a job. Spartanburg and Augusta loved her. Special thanks to her for helping us and getting us out of a pickle.

And that brings us to Halloween in Asheville, NC at the Wild Wing cafe.

The weekend started with a nice steady rain from Thursday til Saturday morning. That Friday was horrible. I think I had rain all the way to Asheville. Once I got to Asheville I had the fun task of getting the rooms set up. At least they didn't put us in the Mountaineer.

Scott and I arrived at the Wing about the same time, to discover the Haunted Castle facade on the stage. It looked great and all, but it seriously took away about 50% of the already cramped stage in Asheville. Once we were set up, Scott's drums were turned in a manner that made it look like Sean, Scott and myself were turning our backs to Rich. haha.

The first night we were the Dock Martins. Great show. We were firing on all 4 cylinders. Not a very a big crowd, but we were received well by the folks that were there. It was nice to see Mack, who came out to hang out with Luna Ashlee.

The next day, Scott and I met up with my friends Katie and Sarah and we went to the Wing to watch the GA/FLA debacle. nuff said.

That night was nuts. The Wing was having a costume contest worth $1000 in prizes and cash. The tables were full all the way to the stage. It was nearly Standing Room Only. By the time the Fox cranked up, they had removed some of the tables in the front and banished those folks to the bar. It was off the hizzook all night. They were dancing right til the end. One of the best Asheville shows yet.

Special thanks to Luna Ashlee, Katie, and Sarah for making the trip to see and support us.

After the gig was relatively low key. The pimpinest bass player of all, had to hit the sack early to get up at 5am to return to Atlanta and go sit in a skybox at the NASCAR race. You know........that's just how OJJ rolls.

Now to the past weekend, in Suwanee, GA.

Friday night we went in as the Dock Martins. Once again great playing, the 90's is getting more and more comfortable for me. I am almost completely independent of any cheat sheets, so it is liberating to be able to work on my character a little more.

The crowd that night was into it, the were diggin the songs of the last decade. As usual the dance floor at the Suwanee Wing was full and hopin'.

Saturday night, was back to business with the return of Electric Boogaloo. As Bob, the manager said to me, "what did you guys put in the water tonight?" hahaa. The crowd was rockin all night. Great crowd! Full dance floor!

Special thanks, to Skip, Tim, Faith, Gail, Shelly, and anyone else I haven't mentioned, for coming out. We always appreciate your support. And of course, the staff at the Suwanee Wing. Jason, Deanna, Tattoo, Bob, Jason, Chewie, Jamie, Becky, Thadd, and everyone else that was working. (Hard to remember who all was there thanks to some red bull and vodka) You guys are the bomb!

Changes

With all the recaps out of the way, I think I am going to change the way I do this blog. Usually, I have tried to save my random thoughts and then include them when I can recap the gigs. The problem as that I forget what I was thinking and I miss out on blogging the good stuff. Not the boring gig recaps. And it makes for a long ass blog.....not unlike this one. hahaha.

So from this time forward, the posts will probably be shorter, more frequent, and not necessarily about the gig we just played.

until then,

Peace, Love & Soul

An Atlanta weekend.

August 25th (The Dock Martins) – Alpharetta, GA – Wild Wing Café

Friday night brought us home to Atlanta. We start the weekend off with the Dock Martins show in Alpharetta. I don't know why but it seemed like we hadn't been there in a while. It was good to see Doc, Mike, Jennifer and all the folks on the staff at Alpharetta.

That night 105.3 was doing a remote when we got there with some sort of special. You buy their mug for a few bucks then all draft is only $1.09. The only down side is that it was only going on til 10. At 10 they switched with their competititon (yeah kind of weird), 99x, and they were in the house. Also in the bar that night the Captain Morgan tattoo team.

At some point during the night, we stopped playing so the 99x guy could come up and give away 311 tix for the next night. They played spin the bottle. They had two guys tongue kissing and everything. Strange evening it was.

You know, the funny thing about Alpharetta. One night after a Stone Cold Fox show we agreed that it would be cool if I were to come to the bar during a song while playing my bass and pour a drink for someone. The problem is that my SCF costume is a bit much to be in that tight of a space with my bass and all. So we agreed that The Dock Martins would be a good show for it. Problem is, there just isn't a good song where I can get away from the stage for that long. Not to mention the height of the stage and the time it would take me to go down the stairs through the crowd to the bar then back around again. Maybe during one of the Stone Cold Sundays I will give it a shot.

August 26th (Stone Cold Fox) – Suwanee, GA – Wild Wing Café

The next night took us back to home base, Suwanee. When we got there, they had the Falcons game on the big screen and we couldn't set up the drums until half-time. OH yeah, forgot to mention, on drums this weekend was Scott Kelley. Scott is our new "other" drummer. No, that doesn' mean Chad is no longer with us. Due to Chad living a little farther away and his work there, he is only available some of the time, so Scott will be sharing the drum duties with Chad. Basically, if the weekend involves the Dock Martins, or is farther than 5 hours from Nashville, Scott will be on the gig.

More inof on Scott/Joey Shamrock and his various stage names are yet to come.

BY the time sound check was done, the Wing was packed. Most of regualrs were there, Skip, Beth, Shannon, Daniel, Virginia, Docta, etc etc..........

Once Rolo and the boys hit the stage, it was off the hook. I think Suwanee had been waiting for its fix of The Fox. That place was packed from beat one al the way til the Hustle. Even the smokin section was cleared out while we were on stage.

Good stuff.

Next week, the band will be in Augusta, but without yours truly. I'll be taking the weekend off for the Dawgs first game. Go Dawgs.

Who knows, Maybe I'll blog about OJJ's game time fun.

OJJ

The Fox Has Come Back to G'Vegas!!!!!!

August 18th (Electric Boogaloo) & 19th (Stone Cold Fox) – Greenville, SC – Wild Wing Café

Friday night we rolled in to G’Vegas. During set up the vibe in the room was unbelievable. I think everyone was ready for some 80’s. After a quick dinner with Sean, Chadwick, and our friend Leslie, we had to marathon through sound check to start getting changed in time.

Once we hit the stage, it was on high the rest of the night.

It was good to see Miss Morbid and Company in the crowd. Turns out they had a room down the street and they were set to party.

Seems like the Greenville crowd has taken well to the non-Crue version of the show. If anything it makes it more of a variety and they get some of the hair band stuff earlier in the night.

As usually another great night at the Wing.

Saturday I finally got a day to sleep in. The CGGS came and got me and we hung out for a while that afternoon. around 5:30 or so, we met up with Sean, Chad, and Glenn and wen to Tsunami for some sushi. It was yummytime!

After that, I went bakc to the room to prepare for the show. Mstly this consisted of watching tv for about 10 minutes then heading to the Wing.

When we got there the place was already packed. Miss Morbid and her crew were already there waiting for us. In fact, the whole crew of regulars were there. I think somebody was missing the Fox. It had been 4 months since we had played the Stone Cold Fox show there. (And we won't be back until New Years Eve.)

Once we starte playing the place was electric. The Band was running on all 4 cylinders. Greenville is always great, but that night was unbelievable.

Another one for the history books.

Next up ------ Alpharetta & Suwanee

Stone Cold Sundays -Coming Soon!! (February 2006)

We've had a few questions about the Sunday shows on our calendar that aren't on there anymore.

In September we were going to start a new thing at the Alpharetta Wild Wing called Stone Cold Sundays. Basically, Stone Cold Fox every Sunday from 8-11.

It has not been cancelled, just postponed.......... As to not compete with Sunday Night Football, Stone Cold Sundays has been rescheduled to start in February, after Football season.

More information to come as we get closer to that time.

thanks,

OJJ

What A Weekend!

08-11-06 Charlotte, NC - Wild Wing Cafe (Stone Cold Fox) & 08-12-06 Asheville, NC - Wild Wing Cafe (Electric Boogaloo)

For this weekend, I have decided to let a guest blogger tell the story. The guest blogger? None other than the Creeper!

-------------------------------------

"Wow what a friggin weekend......
I really don't know where to start. I haven't groupied in years. This weekend almost killed me. LOL! It's been so insane that I'm gonna try typing up a blog to see if I can cover some of it....

Some internet predator contacts me and invites me to ride with her cootie-infested self to Charlotte to hear a band we both like. Frightened for my safety but intrigued by the thought of possibly landing myself a photo opp for the side of a milk carton -- I agree to go. As though this isn't wonderful enough -- who joins in on our recipe for disaster but OJ Jackson himself... and it's his birthday... watch out now.

The ride up there was hysterical. I'm introduced to what CGGS means and I near lost consiousness from laughing so hard. We start mixing Bacardi Limon & Limeade drinks once we reach the NC border... Katie's our car bartender. (These things are GREAT, by the way)

After dropping the world's best bass player off at Wild Wings, my co-bandwhore and I go check into the hotel. After flirting with the soccer boys running wild in our hotel.. we decide to take out all of John's clothes, put them on, and photograph ourselves dry humping in them. How exactly she/we came up with this brilliant plan is one of the many unknown mysteries of the world.

After freshening up and smoking some crack we head to the Wild Wings ourselves. At this point let me tell you something... A. I am NOT good with directions.. and B. NC has the most f*ed up/backwards roads EVER. It takes us almost a half hour to get where we were going.... it should have only been 5 min.

The band rocks -- we do shots of every sorts -- dance like idiots -- clinging around the stage and taking pictures... until closing time. 2 people head for a beer run and we all plan to meet back at the hotel. After putting on some jammies and taking my contacts out, I really just wanted to crawl in the bed.. and I did.. until everyone else came into the room and so began "the afterparty" complete with OJ's crazy mixed drink (bacardi limeade my smirnoff grape drink some of Rodrino's water), the funniest conversation about sex acts, and just lots of sitting.. laughing.. and drinking. 5 am rolls around rather quickly so everyone heads to their beds for a full 3-4 hrs of sleep... until the stupid maid knocks on our doors and wakes everyone up.

We all hit up the *backwards* Cracker Barrell for a big breakfast/lunch.. complete with meat biscuits.. and then hit the road again... Note: Let me not forget out trip BACK to the hotel when guzzler notices that she forgot her cell phone.
I roll into Gville at 4 pm. I have a surprise BDay partyto be at by 6. It's 7:30. The bandwhore in me kicks in and I want to go hear the band, again.

I call my co-bandwhore.. and we meet for a quickie in my backseat then hit the road. *ps -- she's fabulous at doin' it in the vehicle for some reason..?* LOL -- NC, here we come. Again.

The show is great -- I had some crazy ass incident with a half dead drug-induced chick in the bathroom... dancing with crazy/creepy/old guys just for the hell of it.. more shots at the bar with random boys.. then it's closing time. I want to sleep in my bed.. so it's back off to Anderson. I make it home before the sun comes up and crash until noon Sunday. Oh and thank God I didn't stay w/ John & Katie b/c they awoke in the Mountaineer to find a tick on John's arm. No joke.
Aahhh what a weekend.

I know I'm missing some classic moments here but my liver and brain aren't functioning at the moment.

...couple days at work then it's off to the beach for me.

The life of a rockstar.

....wait.. I'm not a rockstar!? ok.... the life of a bandwhore.

"Do you like dogs?"
Cum toothpaste
Night terrors
Donkey punch
Meat Biscuit
The Sleeper
Guess what I did when I got home? What -- Jack off?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Special thanks to the Creeper. Hope to see her and all of you this weekend when The Fox rolls into G' Vegas.

Daddy's Home!

OK, the bad news…… Since I have been back from Portugal, I have been so busy at work that I have not had the time nor the desire to spend much time on the internet during my time off. (For those that don’t already know, I am a web developer at a company and I spend a large part of my day on a computer on the internet). SO with that the OJJ blog as well as my personal myspace blog has suffered a little. So I won’t be doing this blog every single week.

The good news is that I am now going to try and recap every gig, even it means double up weekends on these blogs. I am gonna try to blog here every other week but they may be farther apart.

June 15th 2006, Spartanburg, SC – Wild Wing Café

Our first venture into this particular Wing was a rather good one. When we got there, we discovered that the load in was a lot like Greenville, a pain in the arse. After all was said and done and we had heaved most of the equipment up the stairs, we were informed that there was an elevator on the side of the building. Luckily, we had yet to carry up the heaviest piece of equipment; the drummers stand case.

Speaking of drummers, filling in on drums that night was Scott Kelly of The Alternatives. Also filling in that night was Bart Byars on guitar. Bart has done several gigs with us now. He’s the one with the Mohawk. On vocals that night, as always, was Sean.

Going into Spartanburg, we had no idea what the crowd would think of us. We were thinking, based on reports from other bands, that they wouldn’t know how to takes us at first. Luckily, they were into it from the beginning! They seemed to understand us and dug us from the first note.

Some friends from Greenville were able to make it out that night; Katie S. (pictured with me on stage), Sandy, Brittney, and Mack.

There was no shortage of guests on stage, the ladies here weren’t shy. We even had some Biz Markee guy that coming up on stage. Normally we would stop playing when I guy comes up on stage, but this guy didn’t understand our ways so we just ushered him off the stage and kept going.

Overall, a good night. I’m sure we will be seeing more of Spartanburg.

June 16th (Electric Boogaloo) & June 17th (Stone Cold Fox), Asheville, NC – Wild Wing Café

Ahhh! A two nighter in Asheville! It seems like we haven’t done one of these in quite some time. Lately we have been in one town one night Asheville the other. Another change is that we did the Boogaloo only show on Friday. We dropped the costume change and the Crue. Until then we only did that in Atlanta. I think the Boogaloo only show works well for Greenville.

After driving back to the ATL after Spartanburg and working all day on Friday then driving to Asheville Friday night, I was pretty beat. Luckily I was able to ride with Scott on Thursday, and Bart rode with me on Friday so I got him to drive some of the way whilst I napped.

Chad was back on the drums, and Bart was with us the whole weekend.

The weekend in A town was good. The crowds were receptive as usual. Special thanks to Mack for hanging out with us both nights. It was good to see Will & Michelle and company. We also had a special visit from Greenville, Leslie the “Speaker Keeper” was out to see Stone Cold Fox. Great show on Saturday night.

Next up the another “A” Town, Alpharetta.

Special thanks to Mack for coming out to all three gigs this week and taking snas of the band and helping us stay hydrated.

June 23rd (Electric Boogaloo) & June 24th (The Dock Martins), Alpharetta, GA – Wild Wing Café

Back in the ATL once again, the Dock Martins were set to return to the Alphy Wing. The first time we did that show here, Sean was a bit under the weather and we had just started doing that show. So we were quite anxious to get back and hit it.

The first night, we had me, Sean, Bart and Scott from the Alternatives for the Boogaloo show. The crowd seemed a little small, but once we were a couple of songs into it, we had the dance floor packed. Frankie, formerly of Lixx, came out and sang with us.

Saturday Rich returned for the Dock Martins show. (Bart is heading to NYC , we wish him the best of luck.)The first couple of songs seemed to get a decent reaction, but once we were about 4 songs in, we had the crowd in the palm of our hands all night. Sean did a great job as usual holding the crowd. Hands down, the best DM gig we’ve had and possible one of the best out of all shows. Great Crowd, The staff couldn’t stop raving about us. That night Ashlee/Luna, also formerly of Lixx, came up and sang a couple with us. Mack was in attendance both nights.

Next up, the Fieldhouse in Dacula.

July 1st (Stone Cold Fox), Dacula, GA – The Fieldhouse

Although a busy weekend, only one SCF show. I actually played with The Mighty McFly 3 nights during the extra extended July 4th holiday weekend, but I will write about that in a separate blog on my myspace page. (http://www.myspace.com/joaobass).

Saturday night, we were in Dacula at the Fieldhouse. Great place to play. The staff and the folks there treat us like disco Funk party kings. That and the Fried Green Tomatoes are bad ass.

ON the roster that night; Richard, Sean, myself and Joey Baggett sitting in on drums.

The section in the room with the band was full by 8:00 with people that were planning to be there for the whole show. Even my co-worker Toni and some friends of her and her husband Joe couldn’t get a table up front. They ended up sitting out on the patio and coming in and out to watch us here and there.

In the end another great night in Dacula. Not sure when we will get in there again, nothing on the calendar through August.

July 7th (The Dock Martins) & July 8th (Electric Boogaloo), Suwanee, GA – Wild Wing Café

On Friday night, we started a little on the rough side. The crowd seemed to enjoy the music, but we couldn’t seem to get them on the dance floor. I think they mayhave been holding back on the alcohol or something. The 2nd set was a totally different story. From the first song on they were into it. We got them there and didn’t let go for the rest of the night. Towards the end our good friend Ashlee hoped up and did Hard to Handle with us. It was good to Skip in the house both nights.

Saturday night, whole different story. From the first set on, the crowd was with us and never let go. Once again Ashlee came up and sang a couple of songs. Special thanks to Jeff, Nikki, Scott, Virginia, Robin, Scottie, and Todd for coming out.

Next week, we return to Greenville after a 3 month lay off.

Til then………

Musical Drum Thrones

I’m back!!! Had to go take care of some business in the old country. For details on that be sure and check my personal blog @ myspace.com/joaobass. I should finally get around to posting it sometime this week.

The bad part is that I have been back in the country for about two weeks now and I still haven’t blogged anything here. So with this blog I am gonna briefly touch on the last two gigs. I may even mention the gig that I missed too.

April 21st Marietta, GA (Wild Wing Cafe) & April 22nd Dacula, GA (The Fieldhouse)

Ok, I was gone during this one. Special thanks once again to Matt Jones for donning the Freddie Boom Boom suit and covering those gigs for me.

Don’t really know much about the Marietta gig, but I Heard that the Fieldhouse packed and off the hook. Rolo said the turnout was great and the folks was having the time of their lives. Some of them even came to see us this past weekend in Suwanee.

April 28th Alpharetta, GA (Wild Wing Cafe) & April 29th Suwanee, GA (Wild Wing Cafe)

My first gig back was the day after I got back to Atlanta. Lucy enough for me it was in Alpharetta. We did the 90’s Dock Martins show that night. To add to my lack of sleep, we decided to add two new songs. Longview by Greenday and No Excuses by Alice In Chains.

No Excuses was no problem, but Longview has a fairly difficult bass part that is normally played with a pick. As soon as I got to my house on Thursday night I set up my little amp, headphones and iPod and started learning it. I got it within about an hour and a half or so, but with my fingers. Once I get used to it and no longer need the cheat sheet I will start playing it with a pick.

So the gig went well. The crowd was into it and the new songs went over great.

Saturday found us as Electric Boogaloo at The Wing in Suwanee. As usual, another big Saturday night. Simon was on his game, and the boys were jammin’. Our good friend Luna sat in on a song or two… a goodnight.

May 5th & 6th Suwanee, GA (Wild Wing Cafe)

This weekend started with a hunt for a drummer. Chad had plans, and Rodney had to back out of the gigs for that weekend. (Congrats to Rodney for getting the Stuck Mojo gig.) After several phone calls to find one drummer for both nights we finally decided to get a different drummer for each night. Our old friend Ganesh, from metalsome Inc., signed on for the Dock Martins on Friday night. And Soumen of the Lixx Band was on the slate for Saturday night with Stone Cold Fox.

Cinco de Mayo found el Dock Martinos back at the Suwanee wing. It was our first time doing the 90’s show there. I wasn’t too sure how Suwanee would take this show. I was pleasantly surprised. The first couple of songs had a few people on the dance floor singing along, by the time we played Hey Jealousy the dance floor was packed. The crowd was totally into the new show.

Saturday night seemed to be a little slower when we got there. Cinco de Mayo seemed to have worn everybody out. Not a chance. Another packed dance floor for the 70’s disco show. Rolo was in rare form. Soumen did a great job.

Special thanks to Skip for sending some pictures from the weekend.

This weekend finds us in Columbia, SC and Augusta, GA…………..

Til next time,

john

Sexy Beast

Hello to all. This is the Sexy Beast filling in for OJ. Although, I am not the Beast anymore ‘cause Luna and Mack said that my picture scared them, so I changed it for a bit. Anyway, Big Poppa is preparing for his EuroPimp tour, so I offered to fill in for him (even though he has single-handedly kept me from performing my job up to standard this week) Here is an overview from April 7th and 8Th from a band groupie point of view.

Friday night was the usual 80’s gig. I do not know what happened prior to me showing up around 11ish, and I am sure it is not important. Nigel “Juicy Fruit” must have noticed me when I hit the top of the stairs because I heard a “beast is in the house” comment before I even made it to the bar. I finally navigated my way thru the crowd to the front row where I met Luna and Mack- thanks for sharing your space with me, girls !! Ole Simon was not being he usual flirtatious self with the ladies, so he was not getting any free beer from the Beast. Plus, he pulled me up on stage to dance in the second set, which is a big no-no. Anyway, I partied a little too much (who- me???) and had way too much fun. I appreciate Bobby NOT posting the pic of me that he took on Friday night up here. He does not want to get me killed…My apologies also go out to him for making smart-ass comments like “Quit looking down my shirt” and trying to make him screw up on his bass playing. GOOD JOB BOBBY! All in all, it was a fun night. Although, I did not get invited back to the Holiday Inn to party with the band and all the strippers that they took back with them. I must need to brush up on my pole dancing skills.

Saturday afternoon, I heard the boys played a Dock Martins set at Erskine College for their spring fling opening up for Josh Kelly. I don’t much about it, but here are a few pictures from sound check courtesy of OJ.

Saturday night was the return of Stone Cold Fox. This was a really great thing, cause I have not seen them since November. I know they were all disappointed that I did not show up until close to midnight. Apparently, I made up for lost time by running up a $70 bar tab between 12 and 2. My apologies go out again to Jackie Diamond and Chest Rockwell for not including you in on the cocktails. I owe you two- plus, next time it is OJ and Rev. Rolos turn to feed ME alcohol. I had lots of friend there Sat night and of course spent all of my time right up front dancing. Although, once again I partied a little too much and woke up with a headache………and maybe an unexplained bruise or two. OJ is lucky that he was a wuss and headed back to Hotlanta right after the show ‘cause I heard the other boys had another huge stripper party at the Inn- once again, I guess I need to brush up on my pole dancing. I am disappointed to say that they will not be back in the wonderful town of Greenvegas for a couple months- although I do not know why because we are the COOLEST. I will have to find a new band to stalk in the meantime.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT WEEKEND BOYS!!

2 4 1

Since I’m a week behind, I thought I would just put this past weekends gig and the weekend before that all together in the same blog.

March 24th & 25th
Augusta, Ga Wild Wing
Café

First of all, special thanks and congratulations to Matt and Heather. Thanks, for Matt playing Friday night in Augusta. Congrats for having their baby.

Since I wasn’t there on Friday, I’m not really gonna say much about it. I heard it went well.

As far as Saturday goes…… It was the debt of the 90’s in Augusta. We weren’t really sure what to expect there with the 90’s, not to mention that Chad was not playing with us. Normally, that isn’t an issue. Rodney is a great fill in, but with all of still learning arrangements and such, it made us a little tiny bit nervous. However, it happens that this material is right up Rodney’s alley, so he actually led the way on a lot of tunes.

Once we hit, the crowd was totally in to it. Not unlike in Greenville and Alpharetta, it was more singing along than dancing, but they loved it non-the-less. We even had a birthday party, Elaine turned 53. And Elaine stayed till the end!

So far the 90’s seems to be working. We still haven’t played it in Suwanee or Asheville yet. I think Suwanee is coming up in May. Nothing, on the calendar yet for Asheville and the 90’s. But we’ll keep ya posted.

April 1st APRIL FOOL’S DAY
Suwanee, GA Wild Wing Café

Last night we were back at home in Suwanee. IT was good to see some familiar faces that we haven’t seen in awhile. Good to see you Dave! As always, it was a fun time had by all.

It was good to have Jackie Diamond back behind the kit. He’d been on a 3 week vacation/tour. He had to go to Brooklyn for some R&R, then to Vegas to judge the Ben Vareen Invitational dance contest. Either way, we’re glad he’s back in action.

Another great thing to see was the return of Rolo’s fro. Lately he has been doing the hat thing, but last night he kicked it old school.

Next week, the return of Stone Cold Fox to Greenville. That’s right the Fox hasn’t been there since December. Should be a groovin’ time.

Till then,

Julius O'Jackson

St. Patty’s Day Weekend
Alpharetta
Wild Wing Café 3/17 & 3/18

Whazup up peeps?!?! OJJ is back. After a month long break, to let The Dock Martin’s get some playin time in, The Fox was back in action at one of our favorite place, The Alphy Wing.

When I got there to set up it was already pizzacked to the gizzills! You would of thought we had just gone on break. It was nuts! As I was setting up peeps were constantly asking me what time we went on. As I would tell them 10:15, many would remark about how they been there since 4:00 o’clock. Talk about some dedicated friends! It was good to see most of the Alpharetta SCF regulars out there. Even though, that place always has a crowd, we really do appreciate the people that make it out specifically to see us.

When the Fox finally took the stage, it was mayhem. The pizzeople where dancing on tables and such. No Jackie Diamond this weekend, he was home n Brooklyn judging the annual Jackie Diamond Scholarship dance contest. Rolo had a green fro, Chest was wearing a green bowtie and your truly was sporting a green feather boa, with lights. I think Disco Stu was drinkin’ green beers behind the kit.

At the end of the night, I was informed by Doc, that that night was a record night. I know that St. Patty’s helped a lot, but it don’t matter. The record night is a Stone Cold Fox night. We finally took the crown back from Slippery.

The next night, my boy Juicy Fruit and his gang of Englishmen, Played their 80’s stuff. Most of the staff and the band predicted a slow night. Being the night after St. Patty’s, we all thought most would be too worn out to come out. Well, the dance floor was pretty much empty when we got started. The first two songs, no one danced. The third song, one girl danced. But when Boogaloo played Rock This Town, The dance floor was packed. By the 4th or 5th song it was about like usual. At break time, you couldn’t even walk from the side of the stage to the bar. The wait staff even had to come through the back room to get to that side of the room.

A lot of our friends came out that night as well. Thanks, Jeff, Niki, Robin, Meestor Todd, Jenn (My Gangsta!), Ashlee, Skelly, Scotti.

All in all, a great weekend at one of our favorite places.

Next week, Augusta with the Dock Martins, Electric Boogaloo, and the White Leppard Crue!

The next Stone Cold Fox show will be @ the Suwanee, GA wing on April Fools Day.

Hope to see you fellow pimps there.

Mr. MooLay

Asheville, NC Wild Wing Cafe 3/10/2006
North Charleston, SC Wild Wing Café 3/11/2006

This past weekend found the guys in Asheville, NC on Friday and North Charleston, SC. Both nights featured Electric Boogaloo and The White Leppard Crue (the non Buckhead version). While the boys were on the road, OJJ’s Blog (OJJB) caught up with White Leppard Crue bass player, Bobby Mullett (BM) and with 20 bucks and a pack o’ smokes, we convinced him to give us an interview.

OJJB: Hello Bobby, do you mind if we call you Bobby?
BM: You can call me Sarsaparilla for all I care, just don’t call me late for the chow line.

OJJB: First of all let’s talk about your name. When you guys play, everyone pronounces your last name as “Muh Let”, while you pronounce it, “Moo Lay”. Which is it?
BM: Mullett, Moo Lay. I don’t know what the hell Rick is talking about. He always talks about my hairdo when he talks about my name, what the hell does that have to do with anything?

OJJB: Well, uh, never mind…….let’s move on. As of late you guys haven’t been performing with Boogaloo in the Atlanta area. While another band using the name White Leppard Crue has been playing on Wednesdays in Buckhead at Andrews Upstairs. What are you guys doing during this time and who are the other guys?
BM: The other guys are also the White Leppard Crue. The Crue’s original singer, Nikki Steel had been in seclusion for sometime. Well, one day he decided to come back. With Rick Lethal’s success as his replacement, he decided to split up the territories amongst two Crues. We play with Boogaloo in the non-Atlanta area, they cover Atlanta. They are doing a different show. Mainly, they don’t have the opener like we have Electric Boogaloo. It works out though, with Rick in and out of jail all of the time and his work release program, Adrian having to tend to his chinchilla farm overseas, Johnny talking to Disney about a new Metal themed day-time kids show, and business at my garage picking up, it’s kind of handy to have a few more weekends off.

OJJB: Have you seen the “other” Crue?
BM: No I have not, but I plan to go next week. I hear that it’s a pretty good show, almost as good as ours. I doubt their after-party is anything like our after-party at the Mountaineer.

OJJB: Ok, now to the business at hand, this past weekend. How was Asheville?
BM: Asheville was great! It was good to see Buddah running the door. Dave, the owner was hangin’ out with us. Also it was great to see some old friends (Will, Michelle, Jennifer, Chris, Brad) at the show. We also had a special guest dancer on the stage. Let’s just say her name was K. I’m pretty sure that K has professionally worked the pole before. The crazy part was that she kept making Popeye faces while she was dancing. It kind of freaked us all out.

OJJB: Did you guys have the usual after-party at the Mountaineer?
BM: Yes, even though we weren’t booked there this time, we still had the usual pool party. Although, I don’t really remember any of it, I’m sure it was a hoot. I just remember leaving the Wing and passing out on the hood of an el Camino.

OJJB: Ok, how about the next night in North Charleston?
BM: Talk about a long day! I rode there with Nigel Johnson of Electric Boogaloo. We Convoyed with Spider. Spider played drums with us this weekend, filling for Johnny Angel. Spider is also the drummer for the other Crue. A long drive. I nearly passed out twice. Of course the hangover didn’t help much.

Once we got there we found out that they only wanted us to load in 9:30 and start at 11:00 and end at 1:15. Now with two 70 minute sets, this would leave 5 minutes between Boogaloo and us. Not enough time, so we told talked them into letting us play later.

So after some grub at the Wing, (special thanks to our waitress Courtney for taking care of us all night.) we headed to the room for naps.

Once we came back, the load in was easy. The North Charleston Wing has a pretty cool layout. An f’d up stage though. I think the stage there was pretty much an after thought once the place was built.

By the time we took the stage from those English guys, the crowd was primed and ready. They were yelling for Sweet Child the minute we walked out there. Something that I liked about North Charleston, is that the patrons felt it was their duty to keep our throats from getting dry. We were getting shot after shot, beer after beer delivered to the stage. Funny part is that Adrian and Spider are non-drinkers, so that meant more for me and Ricky!

The craziest part was that there was a girl dancing all over the place, including the stage and Ricky’s leg, that had obviously had pole experience. Her name was also K, just like the girl the night before. She was definitely a freak.

After we were done, some dude, tried to show us a magic trick where you tear a dollar bill in half. HA! He had no idea what he was doing!

After that it seemed like we sat in the Denny's for about 5 hours.

Overall, a good gig.

OJJB: Where will see you guys next?
BM: The week after next in Augusta, that Friday. I won’t be there, Sebastian Wolf will be filling in for me that night. Who knows you might just see me, Rick, or Adrian (due to Johnny Angels residence in Nashville, it’s doubtful he’ll be there during the week.) at one of those “Other” Crue shows. Just look in the shadows, we may be lurking.

OJJB: Bobby thanks for your time.
BM: No problem, now where’s my money and my smokes? You guys got any RBV’s round here? Bobby’s thirsty!

Next week: The return of Orange Julius Jackson!

A Lozenge & A Pancake

Alpharetta, GA 3/3 & 3/4 2006 Wild Wing Café

This week found us back in the ATL area. As always Alpharetta was packed to the gills (whatever that really means).

Friday night, The Dock Martins made there debut in Alpharetta. The good news is that once again, a large group of Stone Cold Fox friends showed up to check us out. The bad news, Sean was in the hospital earlier in the week for laryngitis. When he got there he was feeling ok, but didn’t know how long his voice would hold out.

With the 80’s and the 70’s show, this usually isn’t a problem. We have enough songs in both of those that we can substitute for stuff that is easier to sing, or stuff that Chad or even Rich and I could sing. In the 90’s show, however, that is not the case. It’s a new show, so the songs that are in the list are the songs that we know.

To Sean’s (Stane) credit, he got through the first set pretty much unscathed. In fact, he nailed Creep once again. He really does a great job with that song. Personal Jesus also seemed to hit big that night.

Also, our friend Luna was in attendance and she came up and sang Hard To Handle, giving Sean a little but of a break. The 2nd set was good as well, but in the middle of Man In A Box, I heard his voice go. Somehow he managed to get through the rest of the night and everyone seemed to enjoy the new show. I think the Dock Martins will evolve into something special like Boogaloo and the Fox have over the years.

Special thanks to all the folks that came out on Friday to see the new show……Ashlee, Jeff Niki, Meester Todd, Robin, Bob, Sweet Mathew, Trever, Doh, and everyone else I may not have mentioned.

After the gig, obviously we were concerned about Sean’s voice, so we told Luna that we may need her to sing a good bit. We made a list of songs that she knows that we happen to kow. No worries. If needed she could do the whole night.

But Saturday, when we got there, Sean said he felt better and was gonna give it a shot. We restructured the song list a little bit and threw in some songs from the 90’s and 70’s sets. Luna Came up and sang a couple with Sean (Simon LeBone) and then did a couple by herself. The crowd really got off on that. Otherwise Sean’s voice wasn’t an issue all night. He was able to pull it off and he did a great job as usual. Hopefully this week he’ll get plenty of rest. Not only is it two nights of 80’s, but we’ll be in the Carolinas so we’ll be doing the White Leppard Crue show as well.

Special thanks to Tricia, Ellen, Katie and Ashlee for hangin’ out with us on Saturday night after the show.

This weekend we’ll be in Asheville, NC on Friday and North Charleston, SC on Saturday. Both nights are at Wild Wing Café. Both night Electric Boogaloo w/ The White Leppard Crue.

With that, next week’s blog will be by Bobby Mullett and the following week …….The return of Orange Julius Jackson.

Lastly, many have asked for our myspace address, not just the band ones but our personal ones as well. Here you go.

Introducing The Dock Martins

Greenville, SC Wild Wing Café 2/26 & 2/27 2006

We were back in Greenville this weekend. Friday night was Electric Boogaloo and The White Leppard Crue, Saturday was the debut of our new 90’s show.

For me personally, Friday was a bit hectic. I was up late the night before and had to work my day job all day Friday, so I was pretty tired for the drive to G’Vegas. To add to this, I didn’t get on the road until 7:15 or so. Although this was plenty of time to get there and get set up, I still prefer to be on the road no later than 6:00 or so.

Once there I was able to get set up pretty quick and I even had time to sneak in a bite to eat.

The show on Friday night, as always, was great. The crowd was into it and so were we. With The Slippery guys doing a White Leppard Crue show in midtown Atlanta every Wednesday starting this week, we haven’t been doing the costume change in Atlanta. WE still play the songs, but we do it all as Electric Boogaloo. So doing the Crue this weekend was kind of fun. I almost forgot how fun it is to be Bobby Mullet.

Happy Birthday Sarah!

Saturday afternoon started with a trip to Clemson for Chad and I to pick up a friend that was there. We then headed to Bertolo’s in Downtown G’Vegas for some pizza. Pretty greasy pie that you have to dab with a napkin, but it rocks.

After that, we headed to Ear Shot Records, a pretty cool record store. I ended up picking up the new Sergio Mendes and the new Ron White (they call me tater-salad) cd’s. I also picked up a really cool box set called The Funk Box. A box set of great grooves, in a purple velvet box.

We then headed back to the room for a quick run through of some of the Dock Martin songs. Three long hours later, we headed to the club.

Now, I won’t lie, I was a tiny bit concerned about the turnout, but once we got there I was pleasantly surprised. There were several friends of Stone Cold Fox in attendance. At first I was concerned that they were coming expecting SCF, but they all said that they have been reading this blog and that they were coming to check out the new show and to support us. Shane from the Tiki Hut was even in the house! It was also good to see Mr. & Mrs Freddie “Boom Boom” Washington in the house. And as always, I appreciate Freddie doing some gigs for me, giving me the opportunity for a weekend off here and there.

When we hit the stage, the first set went rather smooth. The crowd reaction was great. A lot more sing-alongs than I thought there would be. During the break the crowd hung out and stayed for the 2nd set. The second half went well too. My favorite song of the 90’s show, Man In The Box, was in that one. However, so far the song that seems to be the big favorite is Song 2 by Blur. “wooohooo!”

There are some things that will need to be tweaked, but so far I think we have a pretty good show to add to the mix.

This coming weekend finds us doing the 90’s and 80’s in Alpharetta. Hope to see ou there.

John (filling in for OJJ)
